Design of the insert for the issue n.4 of «Rituales» magazine. A theater magazine affiliated with the Higher School of Dramatic Art in Seville

Outcome

As an experiment and graphic practice, the layout of the insert was based on an asymmetrical design to give the piece a contemporary and dynamic aesthetic, aiming to connect with a younger audience

Each year, the ESAD (Higher School of Dramatic Art) in Seville publishes a new issue of the theater thought and information magazine, Rituales.

This magazine is always accompanied by a small insert in which small works are usually included for publication. However, for the fourth issue of the magazine, the insert featured the translation of the play «Écoute, mon ami» by Louis Jouvet.

In this work, the renowned French actor, director, and set designer Louis Jouvet reflects on the actor's profession —addressing his students in particular— and being aware of the confusion they face.

Louis Jouvet shares, advises, teaches, suggests, and invites... all in a kind of internal dialogue that inspired me when creating the cover of the insert.

Throughout the play, the phrase «Écoute, mon ami» is constantly repeated, which Jouvet uses to begin each thought. This repetition is depicted on the cover through the reverberation of the sound an actor would produce in the solitude of a performance, or the internal reverberation of the author's thoughts as he wrote the work, immersed in his own universe.
